LAND OF KINGS
Boasting to be the land of kings, as it is home to the king of all birds, the Philippine Eagle; the king of fruits, durian; and the king of mountains, Mount Apro, Davao City proved kingly again as its wellness industry takes the lead in Mindanao's development. |

ALL SIGNS ARE up.
The wellness industry is on the upswing in Davao City, according to Rayenne Evelyn Arao, manager of MediSpa in SM City Davao, in the recent Davao Business Reports Forum. Noting the experience of MediSpa itself, Arao notes how “spa visits have become a regular family event, with most of (our) clients are mothers and daughters (using spa visits as) a bonding activity for the family.”
Mindanao Economic and Development Council senior economic specialist Ever Abasolo seconds the observation, as he noted that the operation of wellness centers in Davao City is contributing to the shifting economic activities of the region. Compared to the previous years, when agri-industry growth accounted for 45% of the region’s earnings, it now only comprises 36%, with the wellness and service industries earning 37%, a notch higher than agri-industry.
So the likes of MediSpa continue to thrive, amidst a more unstable general economy, enforcing the “need to invest further” to remain competitive, says Arao, whose MediSpa trains its therapists in Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei; as well as upgrade facilities to satisfy the “ultimate goal for their client to experience relaxation and tranquility.” |
