HEADED BY DR. Mike Turvill, president, MC Spa Essentials is a “professional spa supplies company, offering local and international quality-orientated spas and practitioners (with) standard and customised product solutions from a comprehensive range of the highest quality ingredients, products and supplies.”

In order to do this, Spa Essentials manages a manufacturing facility licensed by the Bureau of Food and Drug (BFAD) and has licenses to operate as a cosmetic importer and trader issued by the same bureau (BFAD LTO No. RD11-MM-CT-0287, cosmetic trader; and BFAD LTO No. RDI-MM-CDI-651, cosmetic distributor).

What Spa Essentials can do include “developing formulations or using formulations you already have, sourcing specific packaging or purchasing ‘off the shelf,’ label and graphic design, transport trials (for international customers), production of trial batches, full scale production, and professional and retail sizes.”

Already, the company has established “partnerships with top-quality spas in the Philippines to provide them with their own unique custom-made professional and retail products.”  Its services are offered worldwide, however.

More than the products, though, Spa Essentials also offers trainings through its sister company, Spa Professionals, the first internationally accredited spa training establishment in the Philippines by CIBTAC, a UK-based international examination board of beauty and holistic therapists, renowned for its high levels of training and strict quality control.

Under Spa Professionals, the services offered include spa management, supervisory, and business courses; spa staff development classes; recruitment and assessment of spa therapists; local and international job placement; Filipino hilot; and anatomy and physiology.

Turvill, a British national, holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Nottingham in the UK, and has over 12 years of management experience from Unilever in the UK, China, Singapore, and the Philippines after studying aromatherapy in Singapore.  The other Spa Essentials principal is Catherine Brillantes, the Filipina founding president of the Spa Association of the Philippines Inc., who has been a human resources consultant and marketing professional for the past 20 years after finishing an executive spa development course conducted by Cornell University in Singapore.

They also own Tagaytay-based Nurture Spa (www.nurture.com.ph), which was nominated as one of the best spas in the Philippines as part of the 2005 SpaAsia Crystal Awards; as well as operate the Spa Professional International Development Centre based in Metro Manila.
